Wrap Up: 2019 Sea Otter Classic

The Sea Otter Classic 2019 was epic. If this was your year making it out, you chose wisely. Troy Lee Designs athlete attendance was at an all-time high with Cam Zink, Luca Shaw, Peaty, Kialani Hines, Mitch Ropelato, Kyle Strait, Leigh Donovan and of course some rowdy TLD groms. The man himself, Troy Lee even got in on the Sea Otter action and raced alongside his youngest son Dylan.

Thursday

High winds and chill weather greeted everyone on the first day of Otter, and we set up shop with the shiny black & gold TLD helmet van. The highlight of day one was the first star-studded downhill pro practice and a lucky winner who won a D3 Helmet at the booth.

Friday

Day two brought better weather and even better times. Troy was on hand and painted a couple lucky raffle winner’s TLD helmets before heading out to the e-mtb race. Also, Friday marked a win in the Dual Slalom Women’s Cat 1 for the Southern California local, Dixie Owens!

Saturday

What everyone was waiting for, Saturday was the fan-favorite Dual Slalom pro day but first, the youngsters were up on the downhill course. Teagan Heap grabbed Downhill Junior Girls gold in the morning to start the day off right! At 2:00 pm the TLD athlete roster including Steve Peat, Cam Zink, Luca Shaw, Mitch Ropelato, Kialani Hines, Leigh Donovan, Kyle Strait, Rachel Strait, and Lucas Cruz met up at the booth to sign the TLD Sea Otter Classic event poster. Later in the afternoon Mitch Ropelato found himself in the Dual Slalom final and won both runs to earn his third Sea Otter Slalom overall win in a row!

Sunday

The final day arrived, with only the stacked pro downhill race left on the event schedule. We may have saved the best for last, as the crowd got to see Peaty, Luca Shaw, Kailani Hines, Caroline Washam and Walker Shaw bomb the hill. All said and done, Walker Shaw took the big win!
